Breaking: 646,000 Honda Fits Recalled

by Honda in the News on January 29, 2010

A voluntary recall of 646,000 Honda Fits has been announced so that the window switches could be examined. In some cases, these faulty window switches could overheat and fail if exposed to liquid.

The overheating switches may cause smoke, melt. or could even lead to fire. The recall affects Honda Fit models built in Japan, China, Brazil, India, Malaysia, and Thailand. About 141,140 of the recalled Fits are in the US, with 171,372 being recalled in the UK, where this modeled is called the Jazz, and finally 229,00 recalled in Latin America.

Only about ten percent of the Honda Fit models being recalled will likely need replacement switches. Typically these switches have only overheated in inclement weather conditions when liquid can easily enter through the driver’s window.

In light of the recent recalls that seem to be plaguing Toyota, somehow we this new recall from Honda doesn’t seem like it will ignite a public relations backlash. Despite the negative exposure, Honda Fit hatchbacks are not expected to face the same level of stunted sales experienced by Toyota. In fact, the Fit is commonly the top choice among those seeking used Hondas Washington DC and elsewhere.

Thanks to the Fit’s blend of sportiness, fuel-efficiency, and affordability, it continues to be a leading compact, and Portland Honda expects its dominance in the subcompact market to continue. Even in the pre-owned market, Puyallup used car buyers regularly gravitate to the fun Fit.
