Although the earthquake in Japan on March 11 crippled Japanese automakers, and left dealers here in the U.S. scrambling for cars, Honda and Toyota still produce some of the top-selling vehicles on the market. According to Colorado Honda Dealers, after six months, the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry dominate car sales.
In the first half of this year, the Camry holds a 10,300-unit edge on the Accord, with Toyota’s Corolla/Matrix line less than 1,000 units behind the Accord. The Nissan Altima has also performed well, but is nearly in a dead heat with the Ford Fusion.
Honda Arlington told us that overall, auto sales are up by 12.8 percent this year compared to the same period last year. The biggest winners in the first half of 2011 include Saab, which saw a 158 percent sales increase, Mitsubishi with a 67 percent increase, and Jeep with a 49 percent increase.
