Honda has announced that the CR-Z hybrid sports car and the Fit hybrid will officially be sold in Japan by the end of 2010. With these two models, Honda hopes to be boosting its already green image in order to become the greenest automaker in the business.
Both the CR-Z hybrid and the Fit hybrid will be powered by Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist system, which is the same hybrid system used in the Insight hybrid. The system produces 13 horsepower and regenerates power when braking.
Buzz has surrounded the Honda CR-Z since the concept’s 2007 debut, even among one Missouri Honda dealer’s customers. By the time of this year’s Tokyo Motor Show in October, it’s expected that Honda will have a production version ready. With an estimated 140 horsepower and styling from Honda’s European designers and engineers, Jackson Used Honda suggests that the Honda CR-Z is going to be compact, efficient, yet very sporty and will certainly remind plenty of Honda enthusiasts of the deceased CRX compact.
Honda’s Fit hybrid has not received as much buzz, but will certainly garner plenty of attention since it will likely deliver extremely high miles per gallon, but with an attractive price tag which will not doubt appease plenty of consumers. But Honda isn’t the only one aiming for MPG according to Boston Nissan, so Honda will need to act fast if it wants to maintainin its edge in green technology.
In conjunction with the announcement of these two new hybrids, Honda also announced that they will be introducing a new hybrid system for mid-sized and full-sized vehicles soon, but a release date has yet to be given.
