Chrysler was once a dominant force in the North American market in terms of sales and sheer production volume. However, with sales and production both hampered by bankruptcy and restructuring, Honda is poised to overtake Chrysler’s position in terms of sales and production volume.

The second largest Japanese automaker has already overtaken Chrysler in terms of production according to Bloomberg. While it is a milestone for Honda, Honda Service Seaside notes that it isn’t because Honda has had an upswing in new car demand, because all auto sales remain down. Rather, the production and sales triumph is largely due to Chrysler’s steady fall.

As Honda prepares to take its place behind Toyota, GM, and Ford in terms of production and sales, Honda has plenty to look forward to. While the market remains challenging, Honda has affordable models that will continue to see demand. In addition, New York Honda is especially excited about the all-new Insight, which officially is the most affordable hybrid in America.

Honda has sold more cars in April than Chrysler, 332,014 cars in total. That gap is only expected to widen as Chrysler has plenty of problems to work out before it can regain a commanding position in the competitive North American market says one Missouri Honda dealer. In fact, Asian and European automakers are expected to remain competitive in the U.S. market, perhaps more so than American car makers, for the foreseeable future.
