Few opportunities have arisen amid the economic turmoil of 2009, except in developing markets where profits have been healthy. Toyota and other automakers have already announced new vehicles to compete in these burgeoning markets, and of course Honda is not one to be left in their dust.
Making its debut at the Auto Expo New Delhi Show this week is an all-new Honda New Small Concept. Although shown in concept form, this new small car will go on sale in India and Thailand in 2011.
The Honda New Small Concept features a wide platform to provide sportiness and stability. Despite the car’s modest dimensions, it will still be able to fit five passengers. Its exterior styling will also help the car strand out from other ultra lower-cost offerings from Toyota, Ford, and other automakers.
Honda asserts that the car will exceed the expectations of customers in developing markets, while still maintaining affordability. If the bold design cues of the concept are retained in the production model, Honda’s new small car will surely see plenty of demand. To the dismay of Burlington Honda, the car will not likely make it to the U.S. Meanwhile, an Edmunds Nissan dealer says that Nissan is also launching a new small car for developing markets, which will certainly fuel intense competition in nearly every corner of the world. But regardless of where this car ends up, or doesn’t, Miami Honda says it’s still an indication of Honda’s small car strength.
