Honda’s new Brio prototype was just unveiled at the 27th Thailand International Motor Expo 2010. The Brio was developed specifically for Asian markets and will serve as an entry-level model.
Despite its ultra compact size and expected low price, Alexandria Honda said the Brio was developed with Honda’s advanced technologies. The prototype is ideal for urban areas due to its compact size, but Honda claims that it still boasts an efficient interior and a strong presence on the road.
Nations like Thailand and India are requiring more exciting new models to reflect different customer needs. Honda is well-equipped to meet the needs of car buyers in these emerging markets due to the success of its motorcycle business throughout the region.
“Honda would like to expand the joy of mobility to more customers in Thailand, India and other Asian countries through the introduction of a new small vehicle with compact and highly efficient packaging by utilizing our own experiences cultivated by motorcycle business here in Asia,” said Takanobu Ito, President and CEO of Honda Motor.
The production version of the Honda Brio is expected to arrive in Thailand in March 2011. Fuel economy is of course expected to be very strong and it’s likely to receive Honda’s 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine.
With automakers like Suzuki, Hyundai, and Kia, all battling for more market share in this region, the new Brio may be exactly what Honda needs to stay on top.
