The Honda Element has not been a stellar seller, possibly due to its unusual shape and the breadth of competition within its price range. But despite not proving its success in the compact SUV segment, Honda still is planning on producing a second generation Element model, largely thanks to its ability to reach a very niche demographic.
According to Honda personnel, having such a specialty vehicle in the lineup is a great way to liven up the Honda brand. The Honda Element is so distinctive in fact, that despite having similar proportions and similar price to the Honda CR-V crossover, Honda’s research has shown that no buyers cross-shop for the two crossovers, further indicating its appeal to a very different types of consumers.
Combining with its bulky design, cavernous interior, and unique accessories and options, the Honda Element is a natural fit for consumers that lead active lifestyles and require a vehicle that can haul their bikes, surfboards, and even their pets, without compromise. Conversely, the more conservatively styled CR-V mostly appeals to young families that don’t require the level of versatility that the Element can provide.
Few other details remain about the next generation Element, including whether the crossover will even retain the name. However, it will likely continue to use the CR-V’s platform.
The Honda Element, while not the highest volume compact crossover on the market, has always been a popular seller says one Albany Honda dealership. Few crossovers can boast the Element’s unique blend of utility and fresh styling year after year, which gives Honda the difficult task on improving upon an already competitive formula.
While the Honda Element has certainly been more of a niche vehicle compared with the ubiquitous CR-V, Virginia Honda dealers have seen that the Element is ideally suited to a diverse segment of car buyers that demand easy easy access to the interior, speciousness, and of course distinctive styling. The Element provide sit all and more, and hopefully will cotnue to deliver the goods in the future.
